Join Spyglass Tours on an exciting European adventure including the Middle Weekend and Closing Night of Oktoberfest (Sept. 22-Oct. 05, 2017).
Experience the world like never before as you travel through Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.
Friday Sept. 22: Welcome to Germany! After you check-in to the hotel, we'll have a brief orientation before walking through Old Town to the world-famous Hofbräuhaus, where we will raise a glass of Bavarian Liquid Gold to the beginning of the trip of a lifetime!
Saturday Sept. 23: You have the entire day free to explore the wonders of Oktoberfest; the sights, the sounds, the smells! Revel in the fact that you are surrounded by a tradition over 200 years in the making. Be sure to check out everything the festival has to offer including amazing carnival rides, vaudeville shows, and dozens of food and souvenir stands.
Sunday Sept. 24: At 11:00, enjoy a free concert performed by the Oktoberfest tent bands at the foot of the Bavaria statue. You'll have plenty of free time for tent-hopping or taking an optional excursion to one of the many destinations easily accessible from Munich.
Monday Sept. 25: Today we will say Auf Wiedersehen to Munich as we travel in first-class aboard Germany's ICE high-speed-train, en-route to eccentric Amsterdam.
Tuesday Sept. 26: After breakfast, you may join us on a brief orientation tour of free-spirited Amsterdam, or feel free to do as you please. You may ask yourself, 'What's with all the bicycles?' Most everyone in the Netherlands owns two or three. Hop on a bike and explore unconventional Amsterdam the way of the locals. You can take a guided tour or rent your own two-wheeler, and go wherever the breeze takes you.
Wednesday Sept. 27: Today you are free to explore the 'Venice of the North,' which is home to some of the world's greatest art museums; the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum are two of the most popular. Walk in the footsteps of Anne Frank or Rembrandt when you visit their former homes. Perhaps a dinner cruise along the canals would be the perfect way to conclude a full day of history and culture?
Thursday Sept. 28: If you're a fan of craft beer, you've come to the right place. Brouwerij de Prael, Brouwerij 't IJ, and Brouwerij Troost are all amazing small breweries easily accessible from Amsterdam's main attractions. Innovative bars and bottle shops can be found throughout the city. Of course the big guy also deserves a visit - The Heineken Experience, in the old Heineken Brewery, is an interactive and fun homage to this legendary Dutch brand.
Friday Sept. 29: Before departing Amsterdam for Prague, we will spend the day in Zaanse Schans, a charmingly unique town where historic windmills are still used to produce goods such as paint, oils, mustard, and lumber. We'll learn the importance of wooden shoes and see how they are made. We'll sample delicious cheeses fresh from the source. Zaanse Schans is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
Saturday Sept. 30: Welcome to the Golden City of Prague. After an orientation tour to get to know our new neighborhood, the remainder of the day is yours to explore Prague as you wish. Follow in ancient royal footsteps through Old Town Square, past the amazing Astronomical Clock, over Vltava River on the famous Charles Bridge, then on to Prague Castle.
Sunday Oct. 01: You have the entire day all to yourself. Our recommendation of how to spend it is this: make your way across the river, take the funicular up to Petrín Hill, and climb to the top of the pint-sized Eiffel Tower for spectacular views. You'll understand why Prague is nicknamed 'the City of a Hundred Spires.' Follow the Hunger Wall to the 12th century Strahov Monastery where you can take a tour and have a bite to eat.
Monday Oct. 02: Czech beer is considered some of the best in the world, for good reason. Most of the more famous brands are brewed outside of Prague, but there are plenty of micro-breweries and brewpubs in which to sample tasty wares. For insight into the brewing process, check out the self-guided tour at Staropramen, the largest brewery in Prague.
Tuesday Oct. 03: Oktoberfest here we come! It's time to say good-bye to Prague and board our deluxe motorcoach back to Bavaria, where they are celebrating German Unity Day and the Last Day of Oktoberfest 2017! We will close down Oktoberfest at one of the famous festival halls located on the Theresienwiese.
Wednesday Oct. 04: Spend today at your leisure; we suggest a fascinating day-trip by luxury coach to the gorgeous Bavarian Alps for a tour of King Ludwig II's fairy-tale castle, Neuschwanstein with a short visit to the charming town of Oberammergau.
Thursday Oct. 05: Catch your plane, train, or automobile and head toward home, or on to another fascinating destination.
