Is the Spyglass Tours Oktoberfest itinerary mandatory?

No. Our suggested itineraries are designed to inspire your time in Munich, not control it. We provide recommendations based on the activities, restaurants, attractions, and day trips past travelers have enjoyed, but how you spend your free time is entirely up to you.

Most guests gather for the Welcome Drink and their included Oktoberfest beer tent reservation. Outside of those scheduled events, you are free to explore Munich at your own pace, enjoy optional sightseeing, relax at the hotel, visit the festival grounds, or create your own adventure.

Spyglass Tours is ideal for travelers who want the support of an organized Oktoberfest package without being tied to a minute-by-minute group-tour schedule.

What is included in a Spyglass Tours Oktoberfest package?

Each Spyglass Tours Oktoberfest package includes the essentials for a comfortable and memorable stay in Munich:

Do we have to stay with the group during the trip?

No. Oktoberfest is an event-based travel experience, not a traditional escorted group tour. You will stay in the same hotel as other Spyglass travelers and may sit together during your tent reservations, but you are never required to spend all day with the group.

Want to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, explore Marienplatz, relax in a beer garden, shop in Munich, or spend the afternoon at the Wiesn? You can do exactly that. You are welcome to join fellow travelers when it suits you, but your time in Munich is your own.

Why doesn’t Spyglass Tours include more scheduled sightseeing activities?

Travelers come to Munich with different interests, energy levels, budgets, and ideas of a perfect vacation. Some guests want to spend every possible moment at Oktoberfest. Others want to see castles, museums, markets, beer gardens, historic neighborhoods, or nearby cities such as Salzburg.

Rather than filling every day with mandatory activities, we build in flexibility. We are available to help you identify options, plan your time, and choose experiences that suit you, but we believe you should remain in charge of your own trip.

Is the Welcome Drink mandatory?

The Welcome Drink is strongly recommended because it is where you meet the Tour Manager, receive important trip materials, review key Oktoberfest information, and get answers to last-minute questions. It is also a relaxed way to meet other travelers before the festivities begin.

If you cannot attend because of a delayed flight, late arrival, or another conflict, please contact us in advance. We will make alternative arrangements so you can receive the essential information you need.

What does “preferred name” mean on the booking form?

Your preferred name is the name you would like Spyglass Tours and fellow travelers to use when speaking with you.

For example, if your legal name is Charles but you normally go by Chuck, enter “Chuck” as your preferred name. Your airline and hotel reservations must match the full legal name shown on your passport, but we are happy to use the name you prefer throughout the trip.

When will I receive my Oktoberfest beer tent reservation details?

Spyglass Tours typically emails beer tent reservation details during the first week of August, after seasonal package sales have closed and final group counts are confirmed.

This timing helps us place couples, families, friends, and larger travel groups together whenever possible. Your email will include your tent reservation date, time, and other important details. Please watch your inbox, including your spam or promotions folder, as your departure date approaches.

Do I need a reservation to enter an Oktoberfest beer tent?

No. You do not need a reservation to enter the Oktoberfest festival grounds, and reservations are not always required to enter a beer tent.

Most tents maintain some non-reserved seating, but these tables can fill quickly—especially on weekends, evenings, opening weekend, and closing weekend. If you hope to find an unreserved table, arrive early and be prepared to be flexible about which tent you visit.

A reservation is the more predictable option for travelers who want confirmed seating at a designated tent and time.

Why should I have an Oktoberfest tent reservation?

A beer tent reservation gives you a designated seat in a specific tent during a scheduled time period. It can reduce the stress of searching for available seating during one of the busiest events in the world.

How much does an Oktoberfest beer tent reservation cost?

Oktoberfest tent reservations are not free. The cost varies by tent, date, reservation type, table size, and what is included with the reservation. In many cases, the amount paid is applied toward food and beverage vouchers for use at your table.

Spyglass Tours packages include tent reservation access as described on the individual package page. Because tent arrangements are limited and vary by year, reservations must be confirmed and purchased in advance.

Can I purchase additional Oktoberfest tent reservations?

Additional beer tent reservations may be available, but they are limited and depend on availability from the tents. When extra reservations become available, they are offered to confirmed Spyglass travelers on a first-come, first-served basis.

As a general guideline, shorter packages may include one reservation per traveler, while longer stays may include two. Please review your package details for the number of included reservations and contact us if you are interested in adding more.

Will a Spyglass Tours representative walk us from the hotel to Oktoberfest?

No. Your tent reservation is a shared group activity, but guests may spend the day in different ways before their scheduled seating time. Some travelers may already be at the Wiesn, while others may be returning from sightseeing, resting at the hotel, or exploring Munich.

Before your reservation, you will receive clear guidance about the tent location, meeting time, and how to reach the festival grounds. Oktoberfest is an easy walk from the hotel, and Munich’s public transportation system provides additional convenient options.

Are Oktoberfest “tickets” available without hotel accommodations?

Spyglass Tours primarily offers complete Oktoberfest packages that include hotel accommodations and tent reservation access. We do not generally sell standalone Oktoberfest “tickets.”

It is also important to understand that Oktoberfest itself is free to enter. There is no admission ticket to walk around the festival grounds. When people refer to Oktoberfest tickets, they usually mean a beer tent table reservation and the associated food and beverage vouchers.

If extra spaces become available at Spyglass Tours tables after package sales, they may be offered separately at our discretion.

Hotels, Rooms & Transportation

Is Oktoberfest within walking distance of the hotel?

Yes. The Oktoberfest grounds at Theresienwiese are approximately a 10- to 15-minute walk from the hotel through a residential area of central Munich.

The location also makes it easy to reach Munich’s Old Town, Sendlinger Tor, public transportation, restaurants, and major attractions. Of course, walking time can vary based on your pace, weather, crowds, footwear, and how much Bavarian food and beer you have enjoyed.

Does Spyglass Tours provide airport transfers in Munich?

Airport transfers from Munich Airport, officially Franz Josef Strauss Airport (MUC), may be available on request but are not included in the standard Oktoberfest package price.

Please contact us before your trip if you would like help understanding transfer options. You may also choose to travel between Munich Airport and central Munich by public transportation, taxi, rideshare, or private transfer, depending on your arrival time, group size, luggage, and budget.

Will we be bused around Munich?

No. Munich is a very walkable city, and the hotel is located near a major public transportation hub with U-Bahn trains, trams, and buses.

Your package includes a transit pass for the duration of your stay, making it easy to explore the city without spending time on a tour bus. We will help you understand how to use Munich’s efficient public transportation system so you can travel independently and confidently.

Will someone carry my luggage?

No. Guests must be able to manage their own luggage throughout the trip. The hotel has an elevator, but it does not provide luggage-handling staff.

Depending on your arrival and transfer method, you may need to lift luggage onto or off trains, trams, buses, or taxis and walk short distances over cobblestones, uneven sidewalks, or station platforms. We recommend packing light, using luggage with sturdy wheels, and choosing a bag you can comfortably handle on your own.

Can three adults share one hotel room?

The preferred hotel generally does not offer triple rooms for three adults. Room occupancy is typically limited to two adults, with limited exceptions that may apply to a child under age 12.

If you are traveling as a group of three adults, please plan for two rooms or contact us before booking to discuss the available room options.

Why is there a single supplement if I am willing to share a room?

Our package prices are based on two travelers sharing one hotel room. If you are traveling alone and do not have a roommate, the single supplement covers the additional cost of occupying the room by yourself.

For privacy, comfort, and security, Spyglass Tours does not assign unrelated travelers to share hotel rooms. If you have a friend or family member who would like to travel with you, booking together in a double-occupancy room is the best way to avoid the single supplement.

Airfare, Sightseeing & Travel Agents

Does the Oktoberfest package price include airfare?

No. Airfare is not included in Spyglass Tours Oktoberfest package prices because our guests travel to Munich from many different cities, countries, and travel schedules.

This gives you the flexibility to choose the airline, departure airport, frequent-flyer program, fare type, and arrival dates that work best for you. You are responsible for booking your own flights, although we are happy to offer general guidance as you plan your travel.

Please remember that airfare is often nonrefundable or subject to airline change fees. Purchase travel insurance if appropriate for your situation, and verify that the name on your airline ticket exactly matches the name on your passport.

Should I book Munich sightseeing tours through Spyglass Tours or directly with a local operator?

Either option can work. You are welcome to book optional Munich sightseeing tours and day trips independently, or contact Spyglass Tours for recommendations and planning assistance.

Popular optional activities include Neuschwanstein Castle, Salzburg, Dachau Memorial Site, guided Munich walking tours, bike tours, Bavarian food tours, museums, beer gardens, and countryside excursions. Many tours sell out during Oktoberfest, particularly on weekends, so we recommend booking popular activities at least two weeks in advance—and earlier when possible.

Which Munich tour companies do you recommend for additional sightseeing?

Munich has many reputable providers offering city tours, bike tours, walking tours, bus excursions, regional train trips, and private guides. The best choice depends on the destination, tour format, group size, budget, pace, and experience you want.

We do not accept kickbacks for recommending a particular operator. If you contact us with your interests—such as castles, history, food, breweries, Salzburg, Dachau, or family activities—we will gladly share honest guidance and help you identify options that fit your trip.

Do you work with travel agents?

Yes. Travel agents are welcome to book Spyglass Tours Oktoberfest packages for their clients.

Published package prices are net rates, which helps us keep prices competitive for travelers. We do not offer a commission on these packages, but travel agents may add their own planning or booking fee where permitted.

Should I wear a dirndl or lederhosen to Oktoberfest?
